Jane Dickson in Times Square is a new book offering a record of the artistic, seedy and criminal night-time world of Manhattan in the 70’s and early 80’s by renowned painter Jane Dickson. With work in the MOMA and the Whitney, Dickson used photography as research to record the city and the art world she was so intrinsically linked too. The results are a moody, neon-lit dive into New York history.
From exhibiting in Keith Haring’s first ever group show at the Mudd Club, to capturing close friends like Nan Goldin to driving a movement with husband Charlie Ahern to bring together the legacies of downtown art, punk rock, and hip hop through the Colab art collective, the Fashion Moda gallery and other iconic initiatives – Jane was undoubtably a huge part of the changing art scene in New York.
