The art of happiness The Guerlain x Maison Matisse artistic collaboration

A painter of happiness by vocation and sublime master of color, Henri Matisse is one of the greatest artistic geniuses of the 20th century. Guerlain collaborates with Maison Matisse-founded by Jean-Matthieu Matisse, one of the painter’s great-grandchildren-to celebrate the art of happiness with an exceptional creation and precious limited editions in Matisse’s colors.

Since its founding in 1828, Guerlain has cultivated an intimate connection with art. From generation to generation, its perfumers have been inspired by the avant-gardes of their time and have involved artists to enhance their creations. Since 2005, this connection has become closer and more evident, especially in the Haute Parfumerie. Guerlain celebrates Artistic Perfumery through two major innovations. First, the splendid numbered-edition exceptional creations, with which the Maison continues its vocation and collaboration with contemporary artists and artisans. Secondly, the L’Art & La Matière collection, a fascinating workshop where Guerlain perfumers are inspired by the emotions felt in front of works of art. These sensations, sublimated by talent and passion, reveal themselves in an entirely unexpected way. Their trace goes beyond the olfactory signature. The perfume becomes a work in itself.

By inviting Maison Matisse for a first collaboration, Guerlain chooses to celebrate the art of happiness by paying tribute to the master of colors with two original creations, authentic works of art inspired by two paintings by the French artist.

It is very fortunate that Maison Matisse wanted to entrust us with these new creations. Our collaboration is based on common values such as excellence, high standards, elegance and love of beauty, nature and art” said Ann-Caroline Prazan, Guerlain’s Director of Art, Culture and Heritage. Jean-Matthieu Matisse, founder of Maison Matisse, says, “My great-grandfather’s works are multi-sensory; his world was full of plants and flowers, which became recurring motifs in his works. There are many links between his work and the Guerlain perfumery art. So we are very excited to embark on this collaboration, especially because we share the same values: high standards, precision and love of color. That of celebrating happiness is a great initiative, as well as being a first for Maison Matisse.
