‘Disobedient Bodies’ Exhibition by JW Anderson

Currently displayed at The Hepworth Wakefield gallery, ’Disobedient Bodies’ gathers over 100 pieces of art, fashion, ceramics and design from the 20th and 21st centuries that fashion designer JW Anderson has chosen to decontextualize.

Questioning about conception of human form and the way we consume images today, a deep conversation between Henry Moore, Louise Bourgeois and Barbara Hepworth sculptures and fashion pieces is thus created. A mix of Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Rei Kawakubo, Helmut Lang, Issey Miyake, Vivienne Westwood products and Anderson’s iconic pieces that often question gender and identity themes.

Working in collaboration with 6a Architects, the exhibition design has been divided in a series of rooms by fabrics curtains from Anderson’s archive. ’Disobedient Bodies’ is a project that allows images and objects to come alive, from a pregnant Jean Paul Gaultier woman to a friendly oversized pullovers gang signed Anderson.
