The new business model of Giovanni Mario Lucchesi’s Italian brand allows us to rediscover the world of fashion through upcycling and solidarity: refugees and migrants from 14 African and Asian countries are involved in the project.
PRISM, an Italian ethical fashion brand, was born with the aspiration to combine two worlds: fashion and sustainability. The brand’s high fashion garments are made by people who come from the most vulnerable sections of society, mainly refugees and migrants from 14 countries in Africa and Asia, through a tailoring process based on the recycling and upcycling of fabrics often coming from leftovers from the production of some large international brands, to minimize any waste with a view to circularity.
The project was born in 2023 from the idea of Giovanni Mario Lucchesi: a graduate in International Relations who has always been linked to a strong feeling of fairness which he has cultivated over the years with volunteering experiences. After important and enriching trips abroad in extremely fragile contexts, he decides to return to Italy and bring back to the world of fashion the colours, the customs but, above all, the knowledge and awareness gained through years of volunteering in Africa and Asia. Alongside Giovanni Mario Lucchesi in the realization of the project, the Giordano Dell’Amore Social Venture Foundation.
So was born PRISM, the first social laboratory in Lombardy which, through fair and dignified working conditions, enhances its tailors not only as employees, but as skilled craftsmen possessing ancient knowledge always ready to renew itself.
Giovanni’s social experience is combined with the creativity and knowledge of the fashion’s world and art of Fabio Sasso and Juan Caro, founders and creative directors of LeitMotiv who today work to accompany PRISM in the creation of its brand identity as well as in the conception and design of the garments.
Multiculturality, social inclusion and sustainability are the core values of the brand in which the coexistence of different origins, traditions and cultures from every corner of the globe blend with the key characteristics of the Made in Italy, to give light to garments that are unique in their originality. PRISM garments are not just clothes, but intertwining stories made up of places and people who have their gaze pointed towards the future.
The last edition of White Milano has been an important showcase for PRISM and its creations which are a real journey around the world. Each collection tells a new reality: it is through clothes that the connection is created between distant cultures and countries.
For SS24, The Heaven’s Kingdom, inspiration comes from a Southern African state: Lesotho. The country, as well as for the design and color palette, plays a primary role in choosing the name of the collection. It is celebrated that it is the country whose lowest point of altitude is still the highest in the world.
At the center of the collection is a creative design that fully reflects the fundamental ideas and values of the country.
A breath of fresh air in which the fabrics, made with leftover materials that are ennobled through the work of PRISM’s tailors, allow the brand to make its contribution to reducing the impact of the textile industry on the environment.
