The ‘Wearing Chairs’ of Artist Hansol Kim

Hansol Kim is a Korean artist based in The Netherlands, drawing a parallel between furniture and clothing. His spacious installation titled “Wearing Chairs While Sitting on Pants” investigates how these two elements of the everyday can be a medium for a body to define itself within a given environment. Each chair consists of a patchwork of leather, plastic, faux fur and sturdier pieces such as car consoles and a saddle while certain bits of the installation remain wearable. In that way, a piece of furniture can easily change into a costume – the core is the body and the human form.
